Your book stays home. The AI visits.

AI should lead readers back to books and libraries, not around them. Citations connects Claude or ChatGPT to publishers and libraries, on the owner's terms, so a question in a chat ends at a book your library holds.

How it works

  1. 01

    Connect

A reader adds the Citations connector to Claude or ChatGPT. One step, done once, and the assistant knows their library.

  2. 02

    Discover

Answers now include the books that matter to the question, with a publisher-permitted preview of a few paragraphs and a proper citation. The preview is the publisher's text, not the model's guess.

  3. 03

    Borrow

Your library holds this: shelf location, formats, place a hold, borrow a digital copy, or buy from a nearby bookstore. For the first time, a chat can end in a loan.

You ask: Which novel follows two families between London and Paris during the French Revolution, and can I borrow it from my library?

The assistant answers: That is A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens. It follows the Manette and Darnay families between the two cities in the years leading to the Terror. Source 1.

Source 1: A Tale of Two Cities, Charles Dickens, Sample publisher, 1859. Preview permitted, 3 paragraphs.

Publisher-permitted preview, recorded on the owner's terms: It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness.

Your library holds this: Greyhaven University Library, Main Library, available. Place a hold, borrow digital, or find nearby bookstores.

Hold placed. Pick up at Main Library. The assistant confirms: Done. I have placed a hold on the print copy at Greyhaven; you will get an email when it is ready.

Citation copied: Dickens, C. (1859). A Tale of Two Cities. Sample publisher.

Illustrative walkthrough. Simulated library data; digital borrowing shown as planned.

For libraries and publishers

For libraries

Libraries thrive in the AI era

See, in real time, which books your community discovers through AI, which ones you do not own yet, and where holds are piling up. Buy with evidence.

  • Anonymous by design: no names, no reading histories.
  • Your catalogue stays yours; Citations points readers to it.
  • Works with Koha today, more library systems next.
  • Libraries share in the value of every discovery.

For publishers

Every use on your terms

A real-time view of how AI uses your books. Every access is identified, measured and paid under your terms; anything outside them is refused.

  • Your book is never handed to the AI.
  • Backlist earns again, one passage at a time.
  • Cross-language discovery: a question in Chinese can point to your English title, original page beside a translation, a signal for foreign rights.
  • Recorded on a permanent record you can audit.

One connector, the whole ecosystem

One connector, the whole ecosystem A reader asks a question in Claude or ChatGPT. Citations connects it to publishers (academic, trade, university presses), who permit a preview on their terms, and to libraries, which hold the book and place the hold, through Koha, library systems and discovery layers. • Guests open the book and ask it questions.

Libraries

  • Open your special collections to your community.
  • Add archives, local history and rare holdings.
  • Invite the public, or only your members.
  • Readers explore, question and cite them.

Every member gets a seat at the table as we negotiate with the AI companies.
